Description
Cosy timber cottage with the mountains at your doorstep. A perfect place for day hikes or just lovely walks round the pretty mountain village. You can for ex. follow the famous Kungsleden trail, the Padjelanta trail, or the short trails up any of the three closest mountains with fantastic views over Sarek national park, the Tarra valley and the beautiful delta land just by the village. You can reach the mountain Snjerak by foot (summertime) or skis in 1,5h. Even just staying in the cottage, reading a book by the fire place and using the sauna, is a cosy relaxing experience.
Explore the winding channels of the delta (by boat summertime or by skis wintertime), or make an excursion to the unique old forests. See the mighty waterfall Kamajokk in the village. All seasons have something to offer - winter spring sun, the rich summer flora, the sparkling colours of autumn, the northern lights and dark starlit nights of both winter and autumn and the loads of snow.
The cottage has: -A combined kitchen/living room with a stove, fridge with mini freezer, micro oven and a fire place. The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking utensils. -A bedroom with one single bed and one bunk bed (with room for two in the lower bed), i.e. in total 3-4 persons may sleep in the room. -A small toilet (toilet paper is included) and a small entrance hall. -The cottage has floor heating, warm tap water and electricity. -Washing yourself is done in the wood fired sauna, located just behind the house. Firewood is included. Water needs to be carried to the sauna. Preparing the sauna and bathing is like a ritual in itself and is a soothing experience!
Bed linen and a towel can be rented for a cost of 150 SEK per set.
Who am I? My name is Maya and I live in Jokkmokk mainly, with my family (husband and two kids), and in Kvikkjokk mostly on holidays and weekends. We have a lifestyle which mainly revolves around being in the nature and outdoor activities (hiking, skiing, camp, cook over open fire) on a regular basis as well as hunt, fish and pick berries for our own needs. I am used to being a local host and guide. If I am in the village, I am happy to share knowledge about our lifestyle, local life and how to get around.
Directions
The cottage is located just by the main road in the village of Kvikkjokk, 120 km NE from Jokkmokk. Note that the nearest food shop is in Jokkmokk, so bring what you need to the village. At high season, a small shop at the mountain station may have a small selection of dry foods mainly. Arriving by car, you may park right outside the house. Travelling from South Sweden, you may: -Take the night train, then connecting buses to Jokkmokk, and then a bus to Kvikkjokk (booking Kvikkjokk as end destination for the train ticket is advisable). -Fly to Luleå or Gällivare and take a rentav car or bus to Jokkmokk, then to Kvikkjokk. Welcome to get in touch with me for more travelling advice.
Note that the closest food shop is in Jokkmokk, so do your food shopping before arrival. On high season the restaurant at Kvikkjokk Fjällstation may be open, and a very small shop with mainly dry foods and snacks.
